As a South End resident, I’m always so excited when new restaurants open up in the neighborhood. The look and feel of Merrill & Co made me even more anxious to try it. While it took a few months after it opened for us to try it, we were not disappointed when we did. To me, Merrill & Co looks sort of like an old-fashioned soda shop. The decor is mainly simplistic booths and metal high tops with stools.
The food is American small plates with a slight hint of Southern inspiration. We ordered the mac and cheese, waffle fries, oysters and the burger sliders. The mac and cheese paired with the waffle fries, though not healthy, was an amazing and delicious pairing. My only disappointment was the dessert menu. I was hoping for a some sort of malt or root beer float. This is the only thing I would like to see changed about the restaurant- as a sweet tooth, I wasn’t impressed with the dessert choices. However, I would definitely go back- I am looking forward to returning and this time trying the fried chicken and brunch as well.
If you are another Bostonian, have you been to Merrill? What do you think?
