Who: Summer Search Boston Young Leadership Committee
When: Saturday, May 2nd from 4-8 PM
Where: 9OFS- One Federal Street, Boston
Why: To Raise Money For a Great Cause and Have Fun
Boston (or anyone who wishes to travel to Boston 🙂 ), you’re invited to the second annual Kentucky Derby Cocktail Party hosted by Summer Search Boston Young Leadership Committee. This was one of the best parties of the spring last year, so I’m super excited for the event! I ,for one, love getting dressed up and there’s nothing more fun about the fashion the derby brings! Girls in fancy hats and guys in bow ties? Yes please!
The party this year is bound to be a great time- your ticket purchase gets you open bar sponsored by Sam Adams and Whistlepig (for all your mint julep needs). Plus, wine and appetizers are also included. You can watch the main event on the big screen or play some lawn games with friends. There will be some exciting silent auction items for bid too. I got some great stuff last year and can’t wait for this year’s auction.
Besides being a fun night and an excuse to wear a huge hat, the party is fundraising for an important cause in the city of Boston- Summer Search. Summer Search helps low-income high school students realize their full potential through mentoring, college advising and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, like immersion trips to Africa or a sneak peek at college through a summer course on a college campus. For most low-income kids, only 50% of them will graduate from high school and only 10% will earn a college degree. For kids who are a part of Summer Search, those numbers are WAY higher- 98% will graduate from high school and 72% will go on to earn a college degree. 88% of the students in Summer Search Boston’s programs are first-generation college graduates. It is truly amazing how the support of this program can change the life of a student. If you attend the event, you’ll have the opportunity to hear more about it first hand. This part always makes me tear up- it’s very impactful and will leave you inspired!
So if between the pictures, the details and the cause, I haven’t sold you yet… there’s one other thing. A best dressed contest! If you think you’ve got what it takes to win, make sure you are there on May 2nd in your best Derby gear.Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased here. If you’d like to attend, ticket prices go up after April 1st so buy soon!
Hope to see you there!
