Chocolate covered pretzels are the best of both worlds with their sweet & salty combination, while being easy to make.
Happy Tuesday friends! It’s finally feeling like Spring here in Boston and I couldn’t be happier about it! Even the April showers aren’t bothering me after this weekend’s gorgeous weather. They do bring May flowers after all :).
The Tuesday Treat I am sharing with you this week is simple, but sometimes the best things are. I love making chocolate covered pretzels for so many reasons. First, I love sweet and salty together. Why have one when you can have both? MJD is also a big fan of these pretzels and has been known to alternate taking a bite from the chocolate covered top half followed by a bite of the salty pretzel bottom. Secondly, these are an easy, but impressive looking treat, making them perfect to prepare before you have friends over or to bring as a hostess gift. Third, you can customize chocolate covered pretzels in so many different ways. While I’ve shown a traditional chocolate with white chocolate drizzle version above, you can use holiday specific sprinkles or mini M&Ms for a festive treat, like the Valentine’s Day or Christmas ones I made below. I also love these for tailgating or watching a big game using your fave team’s colors!
Now that I shared my love for the chocolate covered pretzel, I’d love to know.. Do you have a favorite go-to, but easy to make treat?
xoxo, Jenna
Makes about 3 dozen pretzel rods
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate (I use Gihardelli chocolate bars)
- Pretzel rods
- Choose one of below based on the look you are going for:
- 4 ounces white chocolate: to make white chocolate drizzled chocolate covered pretzels
- Sprinkles: to make sprinkle covered chocolate covered pretzels
- Mini M&Ms: to make M&M covered chocolate covered pretzels
To Make:
Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper to lay pretzels on.
In the microwave, melt the semi sweet chocolate by microwaving for twenty second intervals and stirring after, until fully melted.
Dip pretzel rods into melted chocolate one at a time, about halfway down the pretzel rod. Using a knife or flat spatula to smooth the chocolate.
If making white chocolate drizzled pretzels: place pretzels dipped in chocolate onto the prepared baking sheet and place into refrigerator for one hour to set. Once chocolate has set, remove from refrigerator. Melt white chocolate in microwave in similar fashion as described above. Using a fork, dip it into melted white chocolate and drizzle over top of the chocolate covered pretzels. Once finished drizzling white chocolate, place sheet back in fridge to set or allow to set at room temperature (this will take much longer).
If making sprinkle or M&M covered pretzels: Sprinkle sprinkles or M&Ms onto pretzels individually immediately after dipping into melted chocolate. Place each pretzel on baking sheet. To set chocolate, place in fridge for at least one hour or until chocolate loses glossy look.
I love the salty sweet combo!
