A sweet and savory combination of figs, blue cheese, walnuts and honey that makes for a delicious late summer or early fall appetizer or dessert.
Well, friends, Monday is here once again. Sometimes when Monday has you feeling down, there’s not much else to do but pour yourself a glass of wine. And what goes better with a glass of wine than a delish appetizer?
Roasted Figs with Blue Cheese and Walnuts are a perfect late summer/early fall appetizer. With figs coming into their prime during this time of year, they’ll be at their tastiest. I’m a big fan of the sweet-and savory combo and the sweetness of the figs drizzled with honey contrasting with the savory blue cheese and toasted walnut flavors is a match made in heaven! Not only will your guests be impressed with how gorgeous this appetizer looks, the best thing about my recipe for Roasted Figs with Blue Cheese and Walnuts is that it comes together quickly- like 20 minutes quick.
If you haven’t purchased figs before, you definitely want to pay attention to the firmness of your figs when you pick them out. Ripe figs will have just a bit of give when you lightly squeeze them. They shouldn’t be mushy- that means they are overripe. Take your time when you are picking them out to make sure you get the best flavor the fig has to offer. I’ve had the best luck with figs I bought and used that same day- they can really ripen up fast- so keep this in mind when planning your shopping before any party prep.
Next Monday, here’s an easy recipe to cure your blues: invite some friends over, grab a bottle of wine, some figs and get ready for a delicious evening!
xoxo, Jenna
You’ll Need:
Makes 24 roasted figs (increase recipe based on the size of your crowd)
- 2/3 of a cup walnuts
- 1 dozen ripe black mission figs
- 1/3 of a cup crumbled blue cheese
- 3 teaspoons honey
To Make:
Pre-heat oven to 375 Degrees F. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place walnuts on prepared baking sheet and toast in oven for 5 minutes.
While toasting walnuts, cut each fig in half and place to side.
Remove walnuts from oven and place to side in a small bowl.
Place halved figs on baking sheet. Drizzle figs with honey- you especially want to use parchment paper because of the honey.
Bake figs for 10-12 minutes.
Remove figs from oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before removing from sheet.
Place roasted figs on serving platter.
Sprinkle blue cheese and toasted walnuts on platter evenly.
Serve and enjoy!
YUM! You’re making me want to break out the wine for a girls night!
