I’m always looking for new places to try in Boston for unique date nights. Sure, your traditional dinner date is always great, but isn’t it fun to mix it up every once in a while? When Spindrift and Night Shift invited me to visit Night Shift’s taproom one night last week, I knew it would make a perfect date night for me and MJD.

Night Shift Brewing is located in Everett, a mere 8 miles from downtown Boston and was started by 3 friends with a passion for brewing beer. After spending a few years brewing their beer at their apartment in Somerville, the guys officially founded Night Shift in 2012. Their name came from their early brewing days- doing home brewing at night after work which they dubbed the “night shift”. This also influenced their logo which features the owl who is obviously one who works at night.

During our visit, we had the chance to tour the brewery with one of the founders, Michael Oxton,ย as well as try the many beers available on tap. Tours happen every day of the week, so if you want to go just check their tour schedule. The night we were there they had 15 different beers on tap. No surprise then that Michael told us on the tour that they had a beer for everyone. Night Shift is the epitome of a local beer, as they are currently onlyย distributing in Massachusetts and using local ingredients to flavor their beers, like Cape Cod cranberries. MJD and I tried a flight of four beers and this was a great way to test them out before committing to one. My favorite? Their hefewizen, Furth. MJD liked something a bit heavier and was a fan of the 87, an American Double IPA described as a hop bomb. If beer isn’t your thing, you can try some yummy seltzer from Spindrift there too.

We visited the tap room on a Wednesday night and the place was packed. The vibe was really cool and fun. While the indoor tap room was super cool, my favorite part was definitely the outdoor patio area. It was the perfect night to be outside drinking a good beer and enjoying some grub from the food trucks.ย MJD and Iย indulged in some awesome wood fired pizza that night from a pizza oven right outside. The slices were HUGE and let’s be honest, nothing goes better with beer than pizza. We didn’t get to take advantage of it during our visit, but inside the taproom, there was an area for games like cornhole (aka baggo or whatever you call it:)). All the more reason to come back- this would be a perfect place to come with a group of friends during the colder months too as there was tons to do inside.

Thanks to Night Shift Brewing and Spindrift for inviting us! Cheers to a different kind of date night ๐Ÿ™‚

xoxo, Jenna

this place looks awesome! I will definitely have to tell Roberto about it because these days he is ALL about the beer. Luckily we have an awesome little brewery right down the road from us. Have you heard of Hopsters? I got him a gift card to make our own beer there so we are looking forward to doing that! While smaller and no outdoor space, it seems like it has a similar vibe. thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚
