When MJD threw me a birthday brunch to celebrate the big 3-0, I tried to stay pretty hands off and let him run with the planning. He threw an amazing party and it was the perfect way to celebrate with our family and friends. Of course being the super Type A and party planning loving person that I am, I couldn’t totally resist and ask MJD if I could make a few decorations. Can’t have a party without some decorations right?!

I really wanted to try my hand at making some tassel garlands- aren’t they super cute? And surprisingly pretty easy to make! They just take a bit of time, but if you have the time to commit, I think it’s fun to have something you DIY-ed in your party décor. Want to make them for yourself? Here’s my step by step (with photos!) for how to make!

You’ll Need:

  • 15 X 20 Tissue paper in your choice of color (I ordered mine on Amazon!)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Washi Tape
  • String

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-2Start by folding a piece of tissue paper in half, lengthwise.

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-4Fold the tissue paper in half widthwise and fold again a second time, widthwise.

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-5Next, cut the folded tissue paper up from the unfolded edge and cutting as evenly as possible.

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-6Unfold and cut into four sections- each section will be doubled up when folded over.

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-3-3Unfold a section and fold in from each side until meets in middle. Once folded up, twist the center tightly so each end has tassels.

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-3-4Form twisted portion into a loop and using clear tape secure into place. Next, add washi tape or other decorative tape around the clear tape.

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-2-4Repeat with multiple colors to make desired amount of tassels.

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-4-3Thread string through loops and secure each tassel with a knot.

diy-tassel-garland-party-decor-boston-chic-party-2-2 Hang up your DIY Tassel Garland and enjoy!

Happy Party Planning!

xoxo, Jenna
