Last weekend MJD and I had the chance to get out of the city for a bit and visit the truly beautiful and super relaxing Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Plymouth. It’s an easy 50 minute getaway from Boston, making it ideal for a weekend or even one night getaway (like we did). Besides having many of Plymouth’s historic landmarks near by, Mirbeau has a seriously stunning (and huge! like 14,000 square feet huge) spa so you never actually even need to leave the inn once you check in if you don’t want to. Over our weekend getaway, MJD and I enjoyed the spa, exploring the grounds and had one of the coolest dining experiences ever through their Beyond The Bistro dining series. Here’s everything you need to know about a weekend stay:
The Inn: With just 50 rooms, Mirbeau didn’t ever feel super crowded which was amazing. There are different sitting areas besides The Bistro restaurant, with many of them having cozy fire places to take a seat next to. You can also enjoy the views outside if weather permits in one of their Adirondack chairs and warm up by the outdoor fire pit when night comes. I loved the French Country vibe from the décor in the restaurant to the toile upholstered bed in the guest rooms. Relaxation and pampering their guests is at Mirbeau’s core, so every room includes a claw foot tub and fireplace. Coming home to the fireplace and curling up with my book was seriously the best way to end our day.
The Spa: As I mentioned, the spa is super spacious with a gorgeous relaxation room and year-round outdoor Aqua Terrace with whirlpool. Both MJD and I received a signature massage treatment (much needed!) and were so relaxed after. Each of the treatment rooms have a fireplace in them given them a very cozy vibe from the moment you walk in. It’s hard not to relax there 🙂 After our massages, we enjoyed relaxing in the resting area. This room was really pretty with a foot massage pool, lounge chairs and you guessed it, another (big!) fireplace. We of course couldn’t miss out on the whirlpool and felt lucky that the weather was pretty nice to enjoy the outdoor Aqua Terrace. Last, but not least, MJD and I got in a good sweat sesh at the gym to give you a full review – oh, and to burn off the apple cider doughnuts ;). The gym was pretty good size and had all the equipment I would need. We attended a spin class and while I did get my sweat on, I was a little disappointed by a few things- the class started about 5 minutes late (fine, but a bit annoying) and second, the instructor kept jumping off the bike to change the music which was a bit distracting. Overall, Mirbeau offers a number of classes at the gym though so it would be easy to take a few different ones (yoga, spin, TRX, etc.) during your visit.
The Food- Beyond The Bistro Cranberry Bog Dinner: While our entire stay at Mirbeau was truly fantastic, the definite highlight was visiting Mayflower Cranberry Farm and enjoying a bog-side dinner. I don’t know why but for years I’ve wanted to go to a cranberry bog- so random- but it was such a unique experience that I am so glad we were able to have. We started off the visit hearing from the farm owner and then had the opportunity to put on some waders and get in the bog for ourselves. So fun (find deets on how to visit here)! All during this time we were noshing on some amazing appetizers and bubbly which of course makes it that much better. The group slowly migrated after our bog fun to a stunning outdoor table all ready for our cranberry filled family style dinner. As gorgeous as the tablescape and view were, the food prepared by Chef Stephen Coe was truly out of this world. The meal started with a pumpkin and cranberry soup, followed by a short rib main course with sides of confit potatoes, brussels sprouts with bacon and cranberries and a great kale salad. Of course, my favorite part was the dessert and I tried every single one 🙂 Starting with a cranberry sorbet push pop was a unique way to cleanse everyone’s palates before more sweets arrived. Cranberry apple cider doughnuts, cranberry cheesecake and cranberry s’mores were served next and oh my goodness, each bit was SO amazing. The s’mores were pretty much life-changing :). It was a gorgeous night that closed out with a stunning sunset over the bog- the cranberries were literally glowing. I know it’s a night I’ll always remember. While Mirbeau is hosting another Cranberry Bog Dinner on October 29th, it is unfortunately sold out at this time. However, this is something Mirbeau does frequently- their Beyond The Bistro dinners in the past have included dining on an oyster sand bar. Talk about a bucket list item! Believe me, it is well worth it to bookmark their events page and check back in order to attend one of these truly delicious and unique dining experiences.
Mirbeau Inn & Spa at The Pinehills is an ideal getaway destination for anyone in the New England area- perfect for couples or girls’ weekends alike. I am sure you will leave feeling more relaxed than when you arrived!
