One of my favorite times of day when I’m on a beach vacation is that happy hour time period, around 5 to 7 PM when a lot of the other beach go-ers have gone home. I love hanging out on the beach late with a drink in hand, enjoying the seaside views. Typically I’ve only ever reserved this beach happy hour luxury to vacations or weekends away, but this summer I was determined to take advantage of the beach here in our backyard in South Boston for a beach happy hour. I even added it to my summer to-do list to make sure I did it!

My friend Ryann had an expression the other day I had never heard- August is the Sunday of summer. It definitely rings true as August usually flies by so fast in the same way that Sunday does when you have to go back to work the next day. If August is the Sunday of summer though, I’m determined to make it a Sunday Funday of summer and live it up to the fullest.

With August starting and some of my summer to-do list items looming and a delicious delivery from Itz Spritz at home, it seemed like a beach happy hour was the perfect way to celebrate the first weekend of August. My best girlfriends and I gathered on the Southie beach- just a quick walk down the street from our place- and caught up on summer adventures over some good snacks, country music and super yummy Itz Spritz drinks.

Itz Spritz is an entirely new type of drink- it is a gluten free alcohol spritzer made with just five natural ingredients. I love that Itz Spritz doesn’t use any high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors to create their products- it’s so refreshing to see in the alcohol world! Speaking of refreshing… the spritzers themselves are light and refreshing and downright glug-able (fancy word for it’s easy to drink 😉 ). My girlfriends and I loved doing a trying out the three different flavors- Elderflower Citrus, Cucumber Lime Twist and Golden Pear. We had a really hard time deciding which flavor was our favorite! The sparkling beverage was created by founder, Kate Sturdevant after her own frustration at finding a great tasting drink without all the artificial additions. Big thanks goes out to Kate for these yummy drinks! Luckily for us here in Massachusetts, we can find Itz Spritz at a number of stores in the area, including one of my faves, Total Wine in Natick!

As far as planning a beach happy hour, I kept things pretty simple- with a cute blanket, some easy and summery snacks like fresh fruit, cheese, crackers and veggies with hummus. The most important part of course though was the drinks- I mean you can’t have happy hour without good drinks, right?  Thanks to Itz Spritz, it was the perfect girls night and now I’m inspired to squeeze a few more beach happy hours into my August. Want to join me? I’ll bring the Itz Spritz!

How are you holding onto summer this August?

xoxo, Jenna

How fun! I love that time of night on the beach as well. I will need to scope out Itz Spritz since I haven’t tried yet.

Nothing compares to summer in New England, and this setup seriously looks like a dream! I’m crossing my fingers Itz Spritz comes to the midwest!
