The Christmas season is my favorite and each year keeps getting better seeing the magic of the season through Nicholas’ eyes! Now that he is a bit older, I’m really looking forward to starting our own family traditions based on ones I grew up with. Baking sweet treats is one of those activities I know we will both love.
Last week we did our first bit of Christmas baking and made Reindeer Cupcakes. These cupcakes are so adorable especially for celebrating with kids. And even better, the decorating is fun and easy for little fingers. Nicholas loved putting on the pretzel antlers and anything that involves chocolate chips is a favorite in our house 🙂
To make the reindeer on each cupcake, we used pretzels, candy eyes, mini vanilla wafer cookies and chocolate chips. You could also use M&M candies for the eyes or nose if you can’t find candy eyes. On a cupcake frosted with chocolate frosting, first place the pretzels so majority of the pretzel is on the cupcake with just the top loop hanging over to create antlers. You will want to add the candy eyes next directly below. The eyes should be added next so you have an idea of spacing to add the reindeer’s muzzle and nose. For the tan muzzle, mini vanilla wafer cookies are perfect! The last step is adding a chocolate chip on top of the cookie for the nose- take a little bit of frosting and add to the back of the chocolate chip to stick it on. Your reindeer cupcakes will now be ready to party!
To cut down on one of the steps when making our cupcakes, we used Open Nature® Buttercream Frosting Mixes which I found at Shaw’s Supermarket. The buttercream frosting mix- both vanilla and chocolate- are one of 20 items from Albertsons Companies’ OWN Brands (which includes Open Nature and O Organics®) that recently won a ‘Best New Product Awards’ from Store Brands publication! Store Brands’ editors cull through hundreds of product entries every year and recognize top food & beverage and non-food items that stand out in various categories. That’s how you know the semi-homemade frosting is good! While I shopped at Shaw’s Supermarket, you can also find these award winning products at the Albertsons Companies family of stores, including Albertsons, Safeway, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Randalls, Star Market, Tom Thumb and Vons.
Besides the frosting, Shaw’s Supermarket has all my everyday and holiday grocery essentials, like reindeer cupcake supplies. With both Grocery Delivery and Pick Up, it is so convenient to shop at Shaw’s especially with two kids 🙂 Anything that makes life easier is a win in my book!
What are some of your favorite holiday traditions? Do you do a lot of baking in December?
